A Message From The Editor

As Christmas approaches, many data centre teams are easing the pace, even if delivery pressures remain. It’s a natural moment to balance day-to-day operations with planning and to focus on what the year ahead will require.

This week’s stories underline the pressures that have shaped 2025. Power has become the decisive constraint in data centre strategy, driving everything from site selection to investment. We explore how operators are responding, repurposing energy assets, signing major capacity deals and accelerating market consolidation.

These challenges will carry through into the new year. With Data Centre World 2026 now open for registration, next March offers an opportunity for infrastructure leaders to step back from delivery mode, compare approaches, and prepare for the next phase of growth.

Wishing you a calm and productive run-up to the festive break, and we’ll be back with more in the final edition of the year.

All the best,
Rebecca Uffindell

What 2025 taught the data centre sector about 2026.

As AI demand accelerates, power availability has emerged as the defining constraint for data centre strategy.

This feature explores the lessons operators must carry forward into planning, partnerships and site selection next year.

Drax plans a 100MW data centre conversion.

Drax has outlined plans to convert part of its former coal-fired power station site into a 100MW data centre campus, repurposing existing energy infrastructure to support digital growth.

The project reflects a wider shift toward colocating compute with generation assets as grid congestion and connection delays intensify across the UK.
